How to Train for a Long Stair-Step Climb

Avoid adding unnecessary weight merely to make training harder; that increases stress without improving your ability to manage the real route.

Progress by carrying the intended training load on moderate climbs before using it during intervals. Manage recovery as part of the plan
Fitness improves between hard sessions, not during an uninterrupted sequence of them. Keep at least one genuinely easy day after a demanding climbing workout. Easy can mean flat walking, gentle mobility work, or complete rest depending on your condition.
Watch for patterns rather than a single tired day. Warning signs that your workload may be excessive include:
